Merstham winger Arron Hopkinson expects a tough encounter as his side travel to Essex to face Billericay Town after being drawn together on the opening day of the Ryman League Premier Division season.
Whilst the 24-year-old would prefer a home game to see in the new campaign, an early visit to New Lodge could be beneficial for his team in the long-run.
“It’s going to be a tough game away to Billericay, however it’s a good game to get out the way because I know later in the season the pitch can deteriorate quite significantly which makes it an even harder place to visit.
“Starting the first game of season at home would have been nice but it’s not a major issue playing away, as long as we get off to a good start.
That’s followed by a visit of former club Bognor Regis Town four days later with the Hopkinson aiming for maximum points.
“Bognor at home on the Tuesday is one I’m looking forward to. Obviously everyone would love maximum points from the first two games and that’s what we’ll be looking to do.”
